The 2 Hampshire Athletics Grand Prix events are scheduled for 22 July - Basingstoke and 23 August - Southampton. An organising team is planning all aspects of these very popular and high quality events.
The Gosport parkrun was launched on 4 July 2015 along the Lee-on-Solent coastline. 430 runners completed the inaugural event (the 6th highest attendance worldwide for a launch event).
Thule have confirmed that there will be a new National Primary Schools Cross Country Championships developed, with the first event being held on 19th March 2016. The event is likely to also include a Year 7 competition (as not currently catered for by English Schools). Thule have suggested some infrastructure support will be made for Hampshire Schools in terms of equipment purchase. Further discussions will be required to determine how best to hold 'trials' within Hampshire to ensure fair team selection for the National event.
English Schools Athletics Championships are taking place this weekend (10/11 July 2015) in Gateshead. NB 13 medals were achieved. Hampshire Schools AA had a record number of athletes (105) with ESAA qualifying standards. 43 of these athletes had also achieved National Standards. Whilst this is testament to the tremendous development work being undertaken within the Clubs and County - it does mean, with a maximum team size of 60, that a large number of athletes targeting the ESAA Championships have been disappointed for a second year running.
The 2015 Island Games was hosted by Jersey from 28 June to 3 July, largely managed by Hampshire Athletics and Jersey local Officials. Jersey, Guernsey and IOW teams were prominent in the medal table.
