UK CAU Inter-Counties Championships
Saturday/Sunday 29/30 July 2017
Bedford International Stadium

The UK Counties Athletic Union Championships are contested by all the counties, districts and regions of the UK, and are held in conjunction with the England Athletics Senior AAA Championships.

This fixture is held at the Bedford International Athletic Stadium.

Hampshire has no less than three UK CAU Inter-Counties and England Athletics AAA Champions after Day Two of the Championships at Bedford.

Chris SnookFirst was Chris Snook (Aldershot, Farnham & District) who, by winning the Men's 3000m Walk, may have become the youngest champion ever at the UK CAU Inter-Counties. Chris's brother Tim finished just outside the medal positions in fourth place.

James Forman
Later in the day, James Forman (Southampton) took the 400m Hurdles title, ahead of Devon's Matthew Sumner and East District Scotland's Jack Lawrie.

Alex Teuten
Soon after, Alex Teuten (Southampton) won a tactical race, when he held off Stephen Mitchell (Cheshire) and Mahamud Aadan (Middlesex) on the last lap to take the
5000 metres title.

Jen Elkins
The only Hampshire woman to mount the podium on Sunday was Jen Elkins (Southampton) who won a bronze UK CAU Inter-Counties medal in the 5000 metres.

Hampshire's men's team were announced to have finished in second place, but when the complete results were declared the following weekend, they were confirmed in third place, while the women's team's ninth position ensured that they will compete in Division 1 again next year. Initial confusion was caused by the revised points structure, as points were awarded to the best twelve performances in each event, including the fastest semi-final or heat times for athletes who didn't qualify for the final, and under the proviso that only the best athlete from each county could score in each event.
