Win for Hampshire Under 13 Girls

Hampshire had a very successful afternoon at Kingsmeadow, despite the rain which set in halfway through the afternoon.

Before the final track event, we were told that the 4x100m Relay would decide which team - Hampshire, Kent or hosts Surrey - would win the girls' match. Kent achieved the fastest time of the three but it didn't matter: when the final scores were announced, Hampshire's winning margin was over 25 points. Individual victories were for Ayomide Cole, placed joint first in the 100 metres and first in the 200 metres, Gabriella Jones and Olivia Austin who beat all-comers in the Shot, while Olivia also finished first in the Discus.

In the Boy's match, Surrey retained the trophy. Hampshire finished in fifth place, only a few points short of third. In fact, they were announced in fourth position but a mistake had been made in the scoring. Harry Ware had a fine victory in the 800 metres, while Daniel Shattock missed out in the 'B' race by less than half-a-second. Aidan Hunt's second place in the Javelin was just one of some strong performances by the boys' team.
