Stacey Burrows and Lucy Pygott
The whole athletics world has been shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic incident which led to the deaths of two young Aldershot, Farnham & District athletes, Stacey Burrows and Lucy Pygott, on the evening of 8 November.
Stacey represented Hampshire and Hampshire Schools several times in track and field and cross-country from Under 13 to Under 17, the most recent occasion being the Under 17 Women's match at Bromley last July. She was also the current Hampshire 3000m Under 17 Women's champion.
Lucy, whose athletics career started at Fleet & Crookham A.C., also represented both Hampshire and Hampshire Schools, most recently when she and Stacey were part of the Hampshire Under 17 Women's team which finished in second place at the UKCAU Cross-Country Championships at Cofton Park last March (pictured). More recently, she won a 3000m bronze medal for Great Britain in the European Athletics Youth Championships at Tbilisi, Georgia.
A minute's silence was held at the Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex Cross-Country League matches on Saturday 12 November.
We send our sympathy and condolences to their families, friends and colleagues at Aldershot, Farnham & District AC.
