Matters Arising:

No matters arising.

Secretary: Mike Williams

We are still in URGENT need of an Administration Secretary.

Declaration sheets and Timetable sent to all visiting counties for the Senior Inter Counties match at Basingstoke.

CAU AGM will take place on Saturday 30 July at Bedford Stadium on completion of the athletic events. Nominations for the Management Council to be in by 10 June. Agenda items to be submitted by 10 June.

EA Consultation: EA are anxious to hear people's views but roadshows only seem to take place North of the Thames. Mike Neighbour mentioned that one was being arranged in Crawley.

Letter of apology from David Howells, Wessex Road Runners. Wessex RR will not be renewing their affiliation, with only 12 members they feel 100 would be too much on top of their EA fees.

Letter received from a parent thanking the county for a well organised Multi Event Competition.

Letter from Sussex AA regarding Road Race Licence Fees. This was discussed at length and it was agreed that we would support the letter. Secretary to contact Sussex AA with the suggestion that their letter be added as an Agenda item at the EA AGM.

Treasurer: Richard Dean

Development: Michael Coker:

1. Introduction

Mike Neighbour chaired the first meeting of the newly constituted Hampshire Athletics Development Management team on 22 April 2016 at Winchester Stadium. The team will be Club and County driven, comprise representatives from 5 Hampshire Track & Field Clubs, Officials representatives, County Development Officer and County Treasurer, and will report into Hampshire Athletics Executive. Meetings would be scheduled at 2 month intervals (potentially more frequently in the initial set-up phase), with regular email communication to ensure we stay up-to-date with key developments.

Hampshire Athletics' overall Development vision was agreed - 'to seek to increase participation, elevate standards, and sustain and grow all branches of Athletics and Road Running in the County and its constituent Clubs'.

2. Hampshire Athletics Development Work

  • Hampshire Officials Evening, Basingstoke Hockey Club, 8 April 2016
This event was deemed a success with c.60 Hampshire Officials in attendance, a lively guest speaker, Peter Shilling - SEAA, a useful update on changes to UKA handbook, presentations to awards winners and a summary of athletics development priorities.
  • UK National Sportshall Finals, SportCity, Manchester, 16-17 April 2016
The Hampshire teams had performed superbly in these National Championships with the U13 Boys team finishing 2nd; U13G - 3rd; and U15G - 4th (from 49 English Counties, and the best teams from Wales, Scotland, Ireland). These are the best results ever achieved! The 31 strong Hampshire teams comprised the following Athletics Club representation:- 19 Southampton; 4 Winchester; 3 Portsmouth; 2 Basingstoke; 1 Andover; 1 Overton, 1 Havant. Recent history has shown that many of our future successful Multi Event athletes emerge from the County Sports Hall activity.
  • London Mini Marathon - 24 April 2016
Hampshire Athletics Clubs were proportionately extremely well-represented in the South East England team in 2016, which is run over the last 3 miles of the London Marathon course. Hampshire Clubs supplied 12 of the 33 athletes competing (there are 7 Counties in the Region), and the SE team were overall winners of the event for the 7th time in 8 years! The team finished 1st in the U15B & U17G; 2nd in the U17B; 4th in the U13B; 5th in U13G and 7th in the U15G. There were 7 Aldershot Club athletes; 3 Portsmouth; 1 Basingstoke; 1 Southampton.
  • Hampshire Athletics Grand Prix - 20 July 2016, Basingstoke
An outline timetable/programme of events has now been finalised, with event publicity prepared ready for initial promotion/publicising at the County Championships.
  • Additional 'Projects' - a number of areas have been added to the 'project' list including (1) the design of a simple information flyer detailing and advertising Hampshire Club membership secretaries, to be distributed at Club, County & Schools events, encouraging the recruitment of new athletes, parents, volunteers, coaches, officials; (2) provide additional effort and support to Championships Committees and building in some succession planning

3. Coach/Officials Bursaries

In previous years there had been a budget for Coach and Officials Bursaries to assist Club volunteers with costs associated with upgrading their qualifications. The total annual spend was 1-1.5K per annum. Whilst there were current requests for coach bursary support from Winchester, Basingstoke, Southampton and Stubbington Green Clubs, the management team agreed to temporarily suspend the bursary scheme, due to budgetary constraints. Subsequently I have explored alternative funding sources and communicated with the Coaches/Clubs seeking support.

England Athletics: Christine Benning

Note that all competing athletes are now required to register with EA.
