Technical Officials Report: Eileen and Terry Williams

With Alison Friend we held Officials Level 2 Courses for Track & Field in Jersey on 1st November which were very successful and they have asked for a Mentoring session at their Open Meeting in April. Provisionally Mike Barratt will go over with Alison and Ian Friend. They are also looking at supplying Officials for the County and County Schools Championships. This is a great improvement with Paula Allbut and Tara Woodward now having taken over the Officials organisation and Training. We also held Courses for all 4 Disciplines at Andover on 8th November with 30 attending and our thanks to Alison Friend, Steve Snodden, Steve Baldwin and Janet Smith for Tutoring.

We are pleased to say Alison was presented with the South East Official of the Year award at Basingstoke, well deserved, but unfortunately we only found out about this by chance so were unable to attend! We have just sent out our 6 monthly Newsletter which includes the details of Alison's Award.

The Officials Committee met near the end of October and made all the Hampshire and Schools Cross Country Appointments. Our thanks go to Richard for putting these on the website. We had some shortages for the County Championships so put out a 'blanket' email through Trinity and had a tremendous response to such an extent we had to decline some offers. Disappointingly we only had one response from solely Endurance Officials and he was in Australia!! We still have shortages at some of the County Schools events but these are slowly being resolved. We are liaising with Pam to see whether a Level 2 Endurance Course can be put together in the Spring/Summer as there is some interest.

At the Committee Meeting there was concern at the aggressive attitude by some people towards Officials when they do not agree/accept decisions. After discussion the Committee have come up with a way forward which will be discussed at this evening's Executive Meeting.

We have summarised the Meeting Reports from the Track & Field and Multi-Events Championships and forwarded this to Christine, Mike and Richard. Mostly it was positive with only small matters to look at, mainly the Stadium facilities.

An article on Respect was circulated following an incident at a recent cross country. To be circulated to all clubs, Richard will also display on the website.
