8-Counties Under 17 Inter-Counties Match

This is an invitation match between the following counties: Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex. The participating counties host the fixture in rotation.

In 2019 the match was hosted by Essex County AA at the Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre, Melbourne Park, Salerno Way, Chelmsford on Sunday 21 July. The postcode is CM1 2EH.

The stadium is approx 1.5 miles north west of the City centre and is signposted by brown tourist signs to the Sports Centre/Football stadium. Drivers should be alert to the 30 mph speed cameras in the City which are operative.

The stadium has a large car park for cars and coaches (free), changing facilities, and toilets inside the Centre and around the track. Covered stands are on the home and back straights.

Electronic timing and EDM equipment will be used. The equipment weigh-in room is situated behind and under the main stand at the 200 metre mark.

Starting blocks are provided . Medics will be in attendance.

The meeting starts at 10.30am with the Men's Hammer and Women's Shot.

The refreshment hut will hopefully be open for hot and cold drinks, crisps, chocolates, fruit etc, and the burger van will hopefully be in attendance, for burgers, chips and teas etc. The close-by shops include a Co-op, a fish and chip shop and a small cafe.

*Three athletes per county allowed in the 3000 metres. The third athlete to wear a number. The first two finishers to score.

Up to and including 800m, separate A and B races will be run. 1500m and above will be run as one race. A and B placings will be determined according to race finish positions.

Field Events

Other than High Jump and Pole Vault, athletes will be permitted 3 trials with the 6 athletes with the best performances allowed a further 3 trials.

The A and B places will be determined according to the best performances and countback if tied.

Starting heights and progressions

High Jump
U17W 1.25m start; U17M 1.35m start.
Then progress by 5cm until 3 remain, then by 3cm.

Pole Vault
U17W 1.70m start; U17M 2.00m start.
Then progress by 15cm until 3 remain, then discretion.
