Ray Scovell
The sad death of Ray Scovell, a name known to many in the county and especially on the Isle of Wight, has been announced as a very unfortunate statistic of the Coronavirus pandemic, as he was taken to hospital with an unrelated illness.
Ray was self-taught in coaching field event athletes and over the past nearly 30 years had brought athletes both from the Island and other parts of the UK to the Commonwealth and International stages.
As the Island's Community Development Officer for sports he encouraged large numbers to take part in the local Medina Park Runs. He expanded this to bring in juniors as he was determined to see children more active.
A comprehensive tribute to Ray has appeared in the Isle of Wight County Press.
Unfortunately, there was further bad news to follow when Ray's wife Rosemary died a short time later, also from Covid. Our thoughts go to Ray and Rosemary's family who will always remember Ray as living his life for sport and the local community where they lived.

Everyone connected with Hampshire Athletics was sad to hear of the death of John Lofts in the early hours of Friday 21 November.
Although John suffered from ill health over recent years, he was very happy in Knellwood Carehome in Farnborough, where they looked after him really well.
His sister, Sheena Fitzmaurice, and her husband John would visit John twice a week. "John was always pleased to see us, and we kept him up to date with all the news.
"John looked really well on Friday 14 November, when we went to the Mayor of Rushmoor's afternoon tea at the council offices. John was wearing his AFD President's chain of office, and he enjoyed chatting to many of his close friends from his wheelchair. John even won two prizes in the raffle! This is how a lot of people will remember John as his last meeting."
John's funeral is on Friday 12 December at 12.15pm at the Aldershot Crematorium, Guildford Road, Aldershot, Hampshire GU12 4BP and afterwards for refreshments at The Royal British Legion, 51 Cambridge Road East, Farnborough, Hampshire GU14 6QB

Graeme Lowndes
Everyone connected with Hampshire Athletics has been sorry to hear of the sudden death of Graeme Lowndes on Wednesday morning.
Graeme was involved with Winchester & District AC since the 1990's and had been a Hampshire Team Manager for several years. In particular, he helped organise the Hampshire teams that have visited Coutances in France every November for 30 years and the return visit of the French athletes to Portsmouth last October.
Graeme was as passionate about athletics as he was about game angling, where he was a professional angler and instructor, both of which he approached with his typical enthusiasm.
We send our condolences to Graeme's family at this sad time.

We have a new web address...!
...but we haven't gone far - like moving to a new house just round the corner from the old one. We've brought all our content with us, and even given the oldest stuff a lick of paint so it matches the rest. And with twice the space, pages won't have to be deleted to make room for new ones.
We'll also add some new features - keep a look out for these in the coming weeks.
So that you don't get lost, visitors are being redirected here from our old address. But that might not last for ever - update your favourites or bookmarks now, before you forget. And if your club website has links to this site, please update those as well: just replace athletics.hampshire with hampshireathletics.
Now, how long before those nice people at Google notice that we've moved...?
